Juliette Gampert

Juliette Gampert (*1997) is currently doing her Master in Fine Art at Goldsmiths university in London after graduating with a Bachelor degree in Fine Arts from the HEAD university of Geneva.

Her artistic research is motivated by her dance practice of dancehall – a culture born from Jamaican sound system parties in the late 70's – used as a way to reconnect with her Jamaican heritage.

Gampert is interested in exploring female emancipation and the ambivalence between being sexual and being sexualized, as well as the stereotypes from the western gaze and how the impacts of colonialism can be expressed by body movements.

In recent years, Gampert has travelled four times to Jamaica, where she has interviewed dancehall creators and filmed parties for her most recent work, a video installation called Reconnec.
