Maria Guta (1983, Bucharest) is a Romanian artist based in Switzerland.
Her work mainly looks into mechanisms of self-representation which she reenacts by placing herself both behind and in front of the camera. Perpetually constructing and curating alternate cyber-identities, she makes use of immersive digital tools and social media in her work.
She holds a BFA in Graphic Design from The National University of Arts in Bucharest and a MA in Art Direction from École cantonale d'art de Lausanne (ECAL). Her latest works were presented at New Frontier - Sundance Film Festival (2019), Locarno Film Festival (2019), GIFF - Geneva Film Festival (2019), Gessnerallee Zürich (2019) and HeK Basel / Ars Electronica Garden Basel (2020).
In 2020 she received the Pax Art Award.
